Joy
\ ˈjȯi \
1a: the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires : delight
b: the expression or exhibition of such emotion : gaiety
2: a state of happiness or felicity : bliss
3: a source or cause of delight
Happiness vs joy - what’s the difference? I think we (and maybe the dictionary too) often confuse happiness and true joy. Happiness can be circumstantial, resulting from trivial things such as a new outfit, a sweet text from a friend or a REALLY good book. And, happiness can be fleeting and turn on a whim, as quick as our circumstances. A toddler tandrum, an unexpected bill, an empty carton of milk when you really just needed 1/2 cup to finish that recipe…yep, there it goes!
But, true JOY, now that comes from Jesus! True joy is based on who Jesus is rather than who we are or our circumstances. True joy is the “gladness of heart that comes from knowing the Lord”! My first collection of angels this year is titled “Joyful Angels” as a daily reminder to seek true Joy from the Lord.
