Inspiration behind the Joyful Angel Watercolor Collection

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!

Philippians 4:4

Joy

\ ˈjȯi \

1a: the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires : delight

b: the expression or exhibition of such emotion : gaiety

2: a state of happiness or felicity : bliss

3: a source or cause of delight

Happiness vs joy - what’s the difference? I think we (and maybe the dictionary too) often confuse happiness and true joy. Happiness can be circumstantial, resulting from trivial things such as a new outfit, a sweet text from a friend or a REALLY good book. And, happiness can be fleeting and turn on a whim, as quick as our circumstances. A toddler tandrum, an unexpected bill, an empty carton of milk when you really just needed 1/2 cup to finish that recipe…yep, there it goes!

But, true JOY, now that comes from Jesus! True joy is based on who Jesus is rather than who we are or our circumstances. True joy is the “gladness of heart that comes from knowing the Lord”! My first collection of angels this year is titled “Joyful Angels” as a daily reminder to seek true Joy from the Lord.

THE DETAILS

The Joyful Angels are bright, colorful, whimsical, full of patterns and botanicals. The collection includes 19 watercolor paintings on Arches watercolor paper in various sizes and orientations. Many of the paintings in this series are also featured in the Advent Scripture Card series released in the fall 2022.

But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
let them ever sing for joy,
and spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may exult in you.

Psalm 5:11
