Inspiration behind the “In the Garden” series

I feel at home when I’m outside, especially during the spring and summer when the plants are growing and blooming. When outside, God’s beauty is shining all around us and it’s up to us to notice and soak it all in! 2 Corinthians 5:17 comes to mind when I think of spring and a season of renewal.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17

FLORAL SUBJECT

It’s no wonder that flowers are the subject of artwork everywhere, they are a stunning display of God’s beauty around us! I walked into my studio one Sunday morning and began painting a loose abstract floral arrangement and loved the result of the watercolors mixing together and the simplicity of the overall design. I was looking to create something different, something loose, and something soothing. The result is a beautiful new creation that lets go of perfection and embraces the freedom of imperfection.

NEUTRAL COLOR PALETTE

Greenery, seashells, hydrangeas, watercolor paint, brass (anything), Peter’s pottery from Mississippi, and a vintage tennis racket….these are a few of my favorite things! When gathering inspiration for the series, I turned to a few of my favorite things and lo and behold the colors provided a cohesive palette for the series! I’m naturally drawn to a blue and green palette and it was evident when pulling together an inspiration board for the series. The “In the Garden” series is full of shades of blue and green with warm tones of brown added for good measure. The neutral palette provides for visually calming and soothing artwork that can renew a space with goodness and peace!
