I recently chatted with Mattye of Namesake Celebrations about all things motherhood and business for our last Mother's Day Q&A!  I loved hearing what she had to say about her priorities, the comparision trap and how the Lord provides new mercies to all of us each and every day (see her favorite verse below)!  I'm delighted to share more about Mattye and her amazing business, Namesake Celebrations!

What is one of the biggest challenges you have faced as a mom entrepreneur, and how did you navigate this challenge?

The biggest challenge is finding the rhythm for being the kind of mom I feel called to be and reaching the vision I have for growing our business. Navigating this is an ongoing, refining process, and I’m so thankful to get to do both! I love being a mom, and I’m also fulfilled in my work. The most helpful thing is to remind myself that I’m not in a rush, and I don’t have to chase imaginary deadlines and sacrifice being present with my children for the sake of growing bigger and faster. There is a season for everything, and I get to choose the pace that works for my family first and business second. 

What has been the most rewarding part of being both a business owner and a mom?

I love feeling like we’re growing this business together! My children ask great questions and have even given me ideas for products and styling! This Easter we had our largest launch to date, and we had an impromptu family celebration, all of us cheering every time an order came through. It really feels like we’re building something together and making memories that will shape our family, and that is so special to both me and my husband.

What advice would you offer to moms who are currently juggling everything and trying to find balance?

My biggest piece of advice is to be disciplined to follow your unique path and stay focused on what is right for you and your family. It can be easy to compare ourselves to other moms or business owners and think we’re falling short or lagging behind. The truth is, we are each equipped and called differently, and we will find the most peace and fulfillment when we embrace our own path at our unique pace and capacity. 

I’m constantly reminding myself that I don’t have to accomplish every goal or vision for our business now. I can do it little by little and I get to enjoy my family life too. There are certain things I am not willing to sacrifice with my children and our family, and if this means the business grows more slowly, that is worth it to me.

What is your favorite bible verse to reference and why?

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,

    for his compassions never fail.

They are new every morning;

    great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23

This verse reminds me that as underwater I can feel as a mom and business owner, I will not be consumed. That is such a gift! It also reminds me that there is grace in my pace–the Lord’s mercies are new for me every morning.
