Artist Statement: A little about the Butterflies and More Collection

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 12:2

It started a few weeks ago, my daughter spotted the first one.  *Gasp* Look!  I’ve never seen a moth, so large, so beautiful, so perfectly still.

Meet the Polyphemus Moth, her beauty is simply to be enjoyed.  She lives as an adult moth for less than a week, which means we spotted her at just the right time.  Her beauty was breathtaking.

A few days later, I spotted this beautiful antlion (how fun) by our back door.  Meet the Glenurus gratus, an antlion (they feed on ants) with gorgeous lace like wings.

Then, a few days later, my daughter spotted this beautiful butterfly, the Limenitis arthemis or the red-spotted purple, sitting perfectly still waiting to be admired, right outside my studio. “Mom, you need to paint them!”, she exclaimed!

Okay, Lord, I’m paying attention!

I see them dancing above the wildflowers on my neighborhood walks.  I see them floating above our roses. I see them fluttering about as we play in the back yard.

God’s beauty is all around us if we are only willing to pay attention.

This collection is all about my favorite sightings in nature….butterflies (and winged creatures alike)!  Butterflies always put a smile on my face and heart, they are wonderous and delicate creatures that inspire the most curious of artists. And, butterflies provide a beautiful, visual picture of the spiritual transformation of our life in Christ.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.  Romans 12:2

I hope you enjoy spotting each whimsical watercolor butterfly and winged creature in the collection.

The collection will be available on Friday, September 29th, but as always, my studio subscribers can shop early, so sign up HERE!
